Sunny wasn’t the fastest on the track, but she was one of the kindest souls we’ve ever known. After retiring from racing with just a few modest wins, she found her true purpose here on our farm. She came to us pregnant and we cared for her through the birth of a beautiful colt. Unfortunately he contracted a difficult illness and passed away at 2 days old. Later on, tragically, Sunny suffered a severe leg injury, which left her unable to be ridden. We worked closely with our amazing vet who miraculously helped her survive. After all of this, she became our beloved pasture pet. She was a quiet mentor to the young horses in our program; calm and patient. Even so, she never lost her spirit. She adapted and continued to offer gentle companionship to every horse she met. 
 
In her last months, she struggled with holding weight and muscle, and her sudden passing in May 2023 left us in shock and immeasurable sorrow. The vet suspected an internal tumor or cancer that we couldn’t have known about. We take comfort in knowing she’s now running free, pain-free, and surrounded by green pastures, buried next to her young foal. We miss her deeply and we are so happy we got to be with her for the last years of her life. It was an honor knowing such a gentle, kind soul. Sunny may be gone from our fields, but she will forever hold a piece of our hearts.
